Kingston, Jamaica – February 8, 2025: Missionaries from the Jamaica Kingston Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints convened at the Constant Spring Chapel in Kingston to receive guidance from Elder Patrick Kearon, a member of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles. Elder Kearon was joined by his wife, Sister Jennifer Kearon, and Elder Vern Stanfill, General Authority Seventy and 2nd Counselor in the Caribbean Area, along with his wife, Sister Alicia Stanfill. The Mission Leader, President Royce Britton, conducted the conference, accompanied by his wife, Sister Trudy-Ann Britton.
Sister Alicia Stanfill emphasized the importance of humility, patience, and faith in missionary work, drawing parallels to the Sons of Mosiah from the Book of Mormon. She highlighted that, like these ancient missionaries, modern-day missionaries can overcome trials through these attributes. She shared her personal struggles, noting that patience with oneself is crucial.
Elder Vern Stanfill testified that all missionaries are called of God and taught about patterns in the Book of Mormon that apply to their work. He explained that just as Christ testified of Himself to the Nephites in 3rd Nephi, missionaries today follow the Doctrine of Christ, inviting others to come unto Christ through faith, repentance, baptism, receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.
Sister Jennifer Kearon engaged the missionaries by asking about their favorite fruits, using this as a metaphor to teach that just as fruits nourish the body, the teachings of Christ nourish the soul. She encouraged missionaries to share the "fruits" of the true vine, bringing joy and conversion to those they teach.
Elder Patrick Kearon delivered an impassioned address on the vitality and enthusiasm required in missionary work. He urged missionaries to move forward with energy and purpose, quoting the hymn "Let Us All Press On" to inspire courage and determination. He emphasized that missionaries should become the message of joy they preach, becoming living examples of the Gospel. Elder Kearon concluded by advising missionaries to earnestly pray for joy, happiness, and the ability to be good servants.
The conference was a spiritually uplifting experience, reinforcing the missionaries' commitment to their sacred calling and providing them with renewed vigor to continue their work in Jamaica.
