With the La Soufrière volcano still erupting and keeping its pattern of seismic activity over the last few days, the Kingstown meeting house of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Saint Vincent, one of the official shelters, is providing refuge for 46 islanders, including members of the Church.

While the volcano continues to erupt, members and leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Saint Vincent remain in shelters and safeguarded in the homes of other friends and relatives. Food, water, and other supplies have been packaged and delivered to members and people in the community as part of the relief efforts of the Church and local organizations.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated 200 food hampers to the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) on April 13. These food supplies will bless two hundred (200) households/families who are in shelters  due to continuous eruptions and explosions of the La Soufrière volcano.

April 12, 2021

The La Soufrière volcano first erupted on Friday, forcing some 16,000 people to evacuate their homes. Among the evacuees are 44 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sheltered in the Kingstown meetinghouse in Saint Vincent. Scientists warn that eruptions could continue for days or even weeks.

April 9, 2021

Citizens in the North region of the island including members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been evacuated. A total of 15 families are now in the Kingston Church meetinghouse. There is water and food available and more will be brought to the chapel soon.

Some fifty families who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who live on the island have been preparing for a possible eruption. Leaders of the Church are preparing humanitarian services and have authorized the purchase of food hampers while other important resources will soon be shipped to the country. Currently, there are no missionaries living in Saint Vincent.
