Hailing from Spanish Town, Jamaica, two of the honourees for Black History Month are Mr. Kevin Brown and his wife, Nadine Brown. The Browns were the first Jamaicans to serve as mission president and wife presiding over the Jamaica Kingston Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during the period of July 2013 to July 2016.
“Go ye forth into all the world, and preach the gospel” is a quote from the Bible familiar to most people. One could say, it was one of the most poignant command given to the disciples of Christ before He left their presence physically.
President and Sister Brown faithfully and voluntarily presided over the Jamaica Kingston Mission which includes Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, Cayman Islands, and the Bahamas. The “call to serve” was extended by a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles which is the second-highest governing body in the LDS Church; the First Presidency being the highest.
